CHAPTER 6: FLESH AND BONES
Alarm activated. Everybody evacuate the building at once. Repeat, everybody evacuate the building at once.
BEEEEEEEEPP. BEEEEEEEEP. BEEEEEEEEP.
An alarm sounded throughout the building at ear-splitting volumes. I smashed through my door, trying to get out, gunshots were being fired all over the place. "What the HELL is going on!?" I yelled out, soldiers were everywhere, actually shooting this time. "It's the infection! Do you have a weapon! You need to get yourself a weapon, kid!" a soldier replied, while trying to defend the building, and the survivors. "I-I have one! It's a pistol!" I told him about my gun, and that I can defend myself. "Well just don't die! That's all I can tell you, our helicopters are not working! Oh shi.. what the hell is going on over there.. Oh no, god no please!" he suddenly seemed very concerned over something. "Get out of my way!" I pushed him out of my way and went through the glass doors. I looked ahead and seen.. the biggest horde of things walking I ever seen. There must have been at least... a thousand of the infected. The smell went all the way to the building, and they looked like they were pretty far.. the stench was terrible.. These were something else though.. they moved really fast.. they were dodging bullets, running straight at us! Suddenly all around me I started hearing this instead of bullets.. click. click. click. clickclickclickclick. "OUT OF AMMO! PASS ME A MAG!" the soldiers had ran out of bullets, they were coming for us! I don't wanna die this way, I thought... No, I couldn't! I tried to shoot at them. My hands were shaking, my bullets were going really off. I went back inside. I pressed the magazine release button on the pistol, I only had one bullet left.. I had to make this count. But not right now..
I sat in the building behind the glass doors. I couldn't believe what was going on.. but I couldn't do anything to help. I might die here. The soldiers might die here. The infection... it really has hit us hard, hasn't it. I didn't even know that many people had gotten infected. I had pretty much collapsed inside.. hands hurting, arms tired as hell, legs shaking, and everything else basically didn't want to cooperate. I started breathing heavy. Slow breaths, but heavy. My vision was blurring.. I couldn't see. I heard screams, people running, and bullets firing once again. I dropped the pistol out of my hand, and took another breath. I still could just barely see... is this it? Will this be how I.. die? I didn't wanna think that way.. I tried to think better thoughts.. I will get out of here.. I will see sunshine again.. I will see my family.. I will stay alive. My breaths were suddenly slowing down, I tried to breathe, but I had problems with doing so. My eyes closed, for a brief moment. For a couple of seconds.. I felt nothing. Just... nothing. No pain, no sound, I couldn't see anything, and I wasn't able to think. I have no idea how long this happened.. but I opened my eyes eventually, and.. the soldiers weren't exactly shooting anymore. The horde had gotten to the building. The alarm was still going off, but I could barely hear it. But then... everything came to me.
I could hear again, and I could see clearly. The infected were.. they were eating the soldiers! I watched in horror as they ripped apart the soldiers skins, and just ate the insides.. I knew at this point I had to get out of there. I couldn't hear any people, or soldiers, all I knew was the infected were about to get to me. They started breaking down the glass doors, as I grabbed my gun. I crawled to my room. It was pretty close as I was near the glass doors, where my room was. Crack... crassh.. krrssshhh... I heard the sounds of the glass doors breaking behind me. I could barely move, I was really.. tired, my arms and legs were worn out. Go... go.. go, that's all I thought. I was almost there as I finally heard... KRRSAAASHHH.. clackkrach.. The doors had broken down! This gave me motivation, I assume, as I instantly stood right up and smashed through my door, and closed it as I got in. I fell on the bed. I tried to breathe. I could breathe a little better, but I tried to keep my mouth shut. I didn't move, at all. I heard their footsteps, walking... just walking around, in search of.. me, probably. I slowly reached for my pistol. I backed up a little away from the door, and aimed through the iron sights toward the door. If they get in, I might be able to defend myself. But I only had one bullet, and I wasn't sure of any other means of killing them. I started to feel weak again.. the motivation was gone. I again couldn't hear too well and vision was blurring. My arms collapsed and I dropped the gun, and I fell over, making a quite loud noise.. my eyes closed, I couldn't do anything. I felt.. nothing, again.. for I think longer.. as I heard pounding. Close. At my door. Scratches, pounding, and it smelled terrible in my room. I opened my eyes and tried to look. I looked under my door, and seen feet... dead feet.
